Furaha Shululu

I began strength training the winter of 1994 to help prepare for the upcoming track season in high school. After track season ended, I continued to workout and follow a basic strength training regimen. Within 2 years, I added 50 lbs. of lean muscle mass, and I had a completely new outlook on health and fitness. I felt empowered and accountable for my actions. I used fitness as a way of meditation, and my focus in the weight room translated to helping with my focus in the classroom and also my anger and anxiety. For years, people have asked me why I haven't started my own gym or my own strength and conditioning program. I simply told them I was not interested, and it was way out of my league.

- In 2004, I began to think outside the box and took the risk of applying for a personal training position. Though my duties were to wipe down equipment and to initiate new members to the circuit equipment, I still felt like I had a purpose and that I belonged - I felt passionate about my job for the first time.

- In 2007, I reached out to a gym in Elmira, NY and began personal training full time. I helped facilitate a strength and conditioning program for the Notre Dame High School and Thomas Edison High School football teams. I gained a lot of knowledge and confidence from this experience.

- In 2010, I began taking on my own clients and training them out of a local gym in Elmira called Diamond Gym, owned by a wonderful and inspiring woman Donna Bailey (rest in peace). Donna inspired me to do my first bodybuilding competition and I continued to compete until 2014. I currently train out of  " The Gym" located in Ithaca at the East Hill Plaza location.

- In 2012, I started my own personal training/strength and conditioning business and out of a gym in Ithaca, NY called The Gym. My wife Daphne was and still is my biggest supporter, and I wouldn't be where I am without her and my children, Arianna and Dante Shululu.

There have been many opportunities that have helped me grow my business to where it is today. I currently train local members of the Ithaca community, including Cornell University affiliates and public figure, and I provide group training sessions. I began training the Cornell University's Men's Tennis team in 2015 and currently train them. I trained a professional women's tennis player who competed in the 2015 US Open Tennis Tournament.

I felt the need to give back to the community, so I began a strength and conditioning program for middle schoolers at Boynton Middle School and Dewitt Middle School. I also began an outdoor bootcamp over the summer which sparked much interest. I realize my passion is to help people who want to change their current situation. This passion has grown even more because I really do love what I do! I look forward to seeing my clients everyday, as well as others who takes their health serious and put in the effort. I believe in my philosophy and will stand by my clients and community to the end.
